Hello! My name is Natalie Barth, and I am passionate about both art history and medicine. As I have started to study more art over the years, I have seen how different cultures represent similar ideas and emotions. Through analyzing art, one can learn how to read people's body language and faces. I have loved medicine ever since I was young, and knew that I wanted to make an imapact on my future patients. When I learned about the blend of art and medicine, I knew that was what I wanted my future practice to include. Not only does art bring patients comfort in stressful, sterile environments, but studying art leads to greater levels of empathy and understanding within the shifting social, cultural, and economic world that patients live in.
In the future, I hope that my knowledge will make patients feel more welcomed in healthcare. I also hope that my holistic approach will make others more excited about medicine. Medicine is truly an interdisciplinary field when you look at all the factors that go into it, and acknowledging that is the first step to improving patient care and outcomes.
